Terms of Service

Effective date: May 30, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Expensei mobile app and related pages on Expensei.app (the “Service”). Expensei is operated by Thomas Haruo Clinard (“Expensei,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

By using Expensei, you agree to these Terms.

Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Expensei. If you use Expensei, you represent that you meet this age requirement and can legally agree to these Terms.

Your Account

You may need an account to use some parts of Expensei. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for activity under your account.

Expensei supports sign-in through email/password, Apple, Google, and Facebook. If you use a third-party sign-in provider, your use of that provider is also subject to its terms and privacy policy.

The Service

Expensei is a mobile-first budgeting and expense-tracking app. It may help you track expenses, recurring bills, income sources, budgets, profiles, and savings goals.

Expensei is an early-stage product. Features may change, be added, limited, paused, or removed over time, including during beta or test periods.

Expensei is an informational and organizational tool only. Expensei does not provide financial, investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice.

You are responsible for your own financial decisions. You should verify important information independently and consult a qualified professional when appropriate.

Your Data and Content

You retain ownership of the information you enter into Expensei, such as expense records, notes, budget settings, recurring bills, income entries, and savings goals.

You give Expensei permission to host, store, process, display, and transmit your information as needed to provide, secure, maintain, and improve the Service.

You are responsible for the accuracy and legality of the information you enter.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • use Expensei for unlawful, fraudulent, or abusive purposes;
  • attempt to access another person’s account or data;
  • interfere with or disrupt the Service;
  • misuse authentication, billing, or account deletion systems;
  • upload malicious code or harmful content;
  • reverse engineer or scrape the Service except where allowed by law;
  • use Expensei in a way that violates another person’s rights.

Premium Features, Trials, and Subscriptions

Expensei may offer premium features, free trials, or paid subscriptions. Premium availability may vary by platform, country, release stage, or beta/test status.

Where subscriptions are offered through Apple App Store or Google Play, billing, renewals, cancellations, and refunds are generally handled by the relevant store under that store’s terms. You should manage or cancel store-based subscriptions through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings.

Expensei may use store-provided purchase and entitlement information to determine whether your account has access to premium features. Deleting your Expensei account does not automatically cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription.

Expensei Pro is offered as an auto-renewing subscription with the following terms:

  • Title: Expensei Pro.
  • Length and price: a monthly plan at US$2.99 (¥480) per month, or an annual plan at US$29.99 (¥4,800) per year. Prices are shown in your local currency in the App Store or Google Play at the time of purchase and may vary by region.
  • Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
  • The subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the price of the selected plan.
  • You can manage your subscription and turn off auto-renewal in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
  • Any unused portion of a free trial, where offered, is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.

Refunds

For purchases made through Apple App Store or Google Play, refund requests are generally handled by the relevant store and subject to that store’s refund policies. Expensei cannot guarantee refunds for store-managed purchases.

App Store Terms

If you download Expensei through Apple App Store or Google Play, your use of the app may also be subject to that platform’s terms. Those platform terms may control billing, refunds, subscriptions, and other store-specific matters.

Where you obtained Expensei from the Apple App Store, you and we acknowledge that these Terms are concluded between you and Thomas Haruo Clinard only, and not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for Expensei or its content. To the extent these Terms provide for usage rules that are less restrictive than the App Store Terms of Service, the more restrictive Apple terms govern. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance of these Terms will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

Intellectual Property

Expensei, including its software, design, branding, icons, text, and other materials, is owned by Thomas Haruo Clinard or licensed to Expensei.

These Terms give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use Expensei for its intended purpose. They do not transfer ownership of Expensei or its intellectual property to you.

Third-Party Services

Expensei relies on third-party services for functions such as authentication, backend storage, analytics, hosting, and app-store billing. Expensei is not responsible for third-party services outside our control.

Account Deletion and Termination

You may stop using Expensei at any time. Expensei includes an in-app account deletion flow.

We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms, create risk for Expensei or other users, or if required by law or platform rules.

After account deletion or termination, some information may remain temporarily in backups, logs, or records we are required or permitted to keep.

Service Changes and Availability

Expensei may change, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service at any time. We aim to provide a reliable product, but we do not guarantee that Expensei will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.

Because Expensei stores budgeting and financial records, you should keep your own backup records for information that is important to you.

Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Expensei is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory.

We do not warrant that the Service will be accurate, complete, secure, uninterrupted, or free of errors.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Expensei and its operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost goodwill, or financial losses arising from or related to your use of the Service.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Expensei’s total liability for any claim relating to the Service will be limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Expensei in the 12 months before the claim or US$100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these limits may not apply to you.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and may provide additional notice in the app or on Expensei.app.

Your continued use of Expensei after updated Terms become effective means you accept the updated Terms.
